It’s kind of funny if we have this because we just talked yesterday about some other news about this BMW 5 Series Touring namely that BMW won’t stop building this car or it will, but just in U.S. because they had few sales there. The Europeans shouldn’t worry about it. If you were still not sure Related posts: Spy Video: 2011 BMW 5 Series Sedan, Touring & M5 Spy Shots: BMW 5-Series Touring Confirmed BMW 5 Series Wagon

New videos: BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid

Posted by admin in BMW Cars on 02 27th, 2010

With 3 days left before the Geneva Motor Show, BMW releases new videos of their latest concept: 5 Series ActiveHybrid. For those of you that missed our previous coverage, here is a quick recap of what 5 Series Hybrid has to offer. The drive system featured in the BMW Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid consists of the straight-six gasoline N55 engine with TwinPower Turbo technology, eight-speed automatic transmission, and electric drive. Then engine outputs 306 horsepower and it is supported by a 40 kW (55 hp) electric motor. The drivetrain technology featured in the BMW Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid allows all-electric, zero-emission motoring in city traffic. At the same time a special hybrid-based Auto Start Stop function offers additional efficiency by consistently switching off the combustion engine when stopping at the traffic lights, a road junction, or in congested traffic. Design wise, the BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid features a slightly modified fascia with a new front-bumper specific to this hybrid model. The aerodynamically designed wheels are also becoming a trademark in all of BMW’s hybrid models. The car will be unveiled Tuesday, March 3rd and the Geneva Motor Show and yours truly will report live from the show floors.

2011 BMW X3 enters the Final Evaluation Phase

Posted by admin in BMW Cars on 02 27th, 2010

After years of inconclusive spy photos, the next and second generation BMW X3 enters the final evaluation phase, FEP as known internally. Due to be unveiled at the end of this year, the 2011 BMW X3 is looking to regain its status in the premium mid-compact SUV/SAV market. With Audi revealing their Q5 model, it was clear that a new and refreshed X3 is due. The 2011 BMW X3 is built on the next generation 3 Series platform and measures 15.15 feet in length, two inches longer than the current model featuring more rounded design lines and a sleeker look. Since the X1 is the new entry-level model in the X family, the 2011 X3 will move up a notch, both in size and style with similar dimensions to the first generation BMW X5. Looking at the spy photo above we can see the headlights shape being similar to the BMW 5 Series GT featuring the same angel eyes with a “raised eyebrow”. The kidneys are sitting lower than in the current model and below them, there is another air opening as seen on the X5. Under the hood a wide range of engines will be available, from four cylinder petrol and diesels to the more powerful six-cylinder turbos. The entry level models are expected to be the xDrive18d and xDrive23d, while at the top, the xDrive35i will take the crown. A hybrid version based of the new X3 is also on BMW’s agenda. The 2011 BMW X3 will continue to offer an all-wheel drive system and it is unknown at the moment if an optional rear-wheel drive, as in the X1 line-up, will be offered at the launch. First photos of the BMW X3 are expected to be released at the beginning of summer with sales commencing early next year. [Photos: SecretNewCars ]

BMW. Physics lesson: Joy is Futureproof

Posted by admin in BMW Cars on 02 26th, 2010

The Joy marketing campaign continues with a new episode, BMW Physics Lesson. The latest iteration in this highly controversial campaign, focuses again on the two keywords we’ve been hearing over and over: Efficiency and Dynamics. Ever since its inception, the EfficientDynamics slogan, branding if you want to call it, has focused on demonstrating the consumers that dynamics and performance can and will be associated with reduced fuel consumption. Moving away from the large, high-rev, but not so fuel friendly engines, BMW wants to maintain its premium luxury icon and the image of a performance brand, a driver’s car that has been around for generations. Let’s have a look at this latest episode.
